Every allurement to do what God has forbidden in His Word is what temptation is all about. First and foremost, temptations do not come from God. We have His undaunted Word on that: " Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man''(James 1:13). According to the scriptures, there are three consistent sources of temptation. THE DEVIL: The devil is the principal author of temptation. He tempted Eve and succeeded in getting her to sin.(Genesis 3:1-7). Thereafter man was thrown out of the Garden of Eden. Ever since, he has been busy tempting mankind. Funny as it might sound, he even tempted our Lord Jesus Christ..that I must say was a "One Horse Race attempt." However, this goes a long way to show that he(the devil) is out for serious business- and no one is excepted from his list of prospective Temptees. Although he does not appear to us physically, he tempts us through people and circumstances around us. In addition, he tempts us by constantly flooding our minds with sinful thoughts and when we choose to dwell and act on them, they become sin. THE WORLD: The world abounds with temptation and the Scripture corroborates that in 1 John 2:15-17. The world is filled with very many things that are intended to dent our garments as Christians. The Internet, mass media, movie industries, corporate bodies etc. which are all inherent aspects of our present day society has gone a long way in promoting certain activities or publications that put many individuals into temptation. Therefore, as Christians, we must guard ourselves and be ready to overcome the temptations that come from the world. To Be Continued in our next post..stay with us and God bless you.
